How did I get here?

“Yeah, you could study English — as long as you’re okay not being able to buy a house. Or a car… or groceries.”

I laughed at my brother’s advice but also took it seriously enough to be scared out of pursuing an English degree. Instead I studied Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (basically the same thing, right?)

Fortunately, my enthusiasm for writing didn’t go down without a fight; two years in, I traded in my B.S. for a B.A. Today, I’m happily working for a Fortune 150 company, writing communications for executive leadership, company-wide programs, and global events that bring in over 2 million attendees across the world.

Best of all, I have an apartment. And a car. I even buy groceries from time to time.
